At T2D Adventures we are focused on helping you live a long and healthy life!  Like many, we have struggled with weight issues for many years.  Both Nicole and I have been there, and done that when it comes to trying to get healthy.  We have refined our process over many years and are seeing progress.  Most importantly, we have learned what doesn’t work so we can save you the heartache of trying things which just don’t work.  For those that don’t know, T2D is an abbreviation for Type 2 Diabetes.

Todd Grew up in a little town called Cumberland, RI.  It was the sort of town where people didn’t lock their doors, and nobody worried about anything happening.  A graduate of Cumberland High School, Todd then went on to briefly attend College in Vermont, before returning to Little Rhody to attend the University of Rhode Island in the Pharmacy program.  Shortly after graduating, Todd moved to North Attleboro, MA.

Todd has been a Pharmacist since graduating URI in 1993.  A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, back in the days when to become a Pharmacist you needed to complete 5 years of college, but you were only given a Bachelor’s Degree.  What a rip off! 🙂  Despite “just” having a Bachelor’s Degree, Todd has learned extensively over his career in the “School of Hard Knocks” and while not official, has more than earned a PharmD. in the ways of Pharmacy. Recently, he returned to school to solidify that “School of Hard Knocks” degree with a real MBA from Husson University, which he will complete in February 2019, officially graduating in May.

Starting out as a journeyman Pharmacist at East Side Prescription Center, as described in the “Life as a Newly Minted Pharmacist” Todd then moved to New Hampshire to pursue other Adventures.  Only to find out as so many do that the “Grass is not Always Greener” on the other side of the fence.  However difficult that lesson was, it was a lesson well learned.

Shortly after learning that Adventure was a poor decision, Todd was able to relocate to Vermont and further improve his knowledge as a Pharmacist and Medical practitioner.  All the while, the passion for helping people continued to grow.  After several years in Vermont, an opportunity to advance was presented, and Todd took a position with Walmart in the Pharmacy Division.  Shortly after being hired at Walmart, Todd was courted to become a District Manager.  Over the next couple years, through intensive training, Todd was promoted, but that meant moving…  To Maine.

For those of you keeping track, that’s 5 of the 6 New England States…  What wasn’t mentioned was that during that intensive training, about 6 months were spent in Connecticut, so Todd claims having “lived” in all 6 New England states at one point in his life.  To say he’s a New Englander through and through is pretty accurate.

While in Maine, Todd spent lots of time driving all over the state.  When looking at a map of the USA, Maine might not look all that big, but the district Todd managed covered almost 75% of the area of the state.  In one year he put 40,000 miles on the company vehicle going from store to store for Walmart.  All of that traveling took a toll on his health, and this is the time period described in “A-Ha! Moment #1.”  One of the good things that came from all of this travel is that without understanding the importance of it, Todd met Nicole, but they were married to other people at the time.   Additional good things happened over the years, including extensive travel outside of New England, and an excellent education in Managing people and operations with Walmart.  But all good things come to an end…  

In 2010, after 6 rigorous years as a District/Market Manager for Walmart, Todd decided it was time to make a change, in more ways than one.  Todd returned to work the “bench” as a Pharmacist as opposed to being a Manager, but wasn’t able to get far from management, and was made the Pharmacy Manager for the Bangor, ME Walmart Pharmacy.  Throughout 2010, and into 2011, things at home were deteriorating even though his health was improving.  Early in 2010, Todd filed for divorce from his first wife.  Without knowing it, the timing couldn’t have been better.

July 15, 2011 things were suddenly looking tremendously better!  That would be the night of Todd’s first date with Nicole.  It was a whirlwind romance from the beginning, and hasn’t stopped yet! Nor will it!  Todd and Nicole got married on January 2, 2012.  Numerically that’s 1/2/12…  Who could forget their anniversary if it had that date?  There is more to the story of numbers and dates, but that’s something for another day…

All through his career as a Pharmacist, Todd was always looking for ways to help people improve their health, while unintentionally letting his own slide further and further into the abyss of bad health choices.  Being someone who places the needs of others before his own took its toll, along with all that travel for Walmart, but meeting and falling in love with Nicole renewed Todd’s interest in improving his own health.  Ever since they met, he has been looking for ways to improve himself,  attacking it like trying to improve operations at a struggling Pharmacy.   

At the prompting of Nicole’s sister Heather, Todd took up Triathlon, the origin of that story can be found in “The Mirror Tells No Lies!“

Working as a Pharmacist has its limits on how much improvement you can make in someone’s life, after all, interaction with a patient is usually very brief, and focused on the medication at hand.  What more could be done?

Being Diabetic, Todd briefly considered becoming a Diabetic Educator, since his first interaction with Diabetes Education, as described in “One Fun-Sized Candy Bar… Really?” wasn’t exactly positive.  There was always something missing.  There were other ideas that were worked on, but nothing really clicked…  Until one day when listening to some random podcasts, and he came across Side Hustle Nation with Nick Loper.  Specifically, it was the episode with Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense of Cents.

It struck him like getting whacked by Thor’s Hammer, and within a couple days T2D Adventures was born.  From here, you can follow along with our story, but some of the most important posts to read are “1 Simple Reason” and “Precipice“
